As one of the leading causes of death in our country, sudden cardiac arrest claims up to 450,000 people a year - approximately 1,200 people a day. Sudden cardiac arrest is when the heart ceases to function, and the only way to revive it is through defibrillation, or an AED machine.  Victims can be of all ages, and many times there are no symptoms or previous heart problems.  The average survival rate for a witnessed cardiac arrest victim is less than 5 percent.
