BOD member description: Susan moved to Seattle in 1986 and three years later, she and her family settled in the Rainier Valley. Her original intention was to come to Seattle for a one year study program and return to Washington, DC, but those plans were not realized when she fell in love with the area and her future husband. Susan's professional passion is community organizing and she has worked as an self employed interpreter, teacher, advocate, organization/project director, writer, fundraiser, event planner and all the other tasks required to make positive action successful. Susan has a deep personal interest in how people organize their cultures and what emerges when cultures intersect. She appreciates challenges and learning and is able to visualize the big picture while not being afraid to roll up her sleeves to make things happen. "Working in my own neighborhood has been a great experience. Learning how businesses function and partnering with public and private interests to improve economic development in our area has been a professional joy. Everyday I get to work with interesting and smart people who care about the Rainier Valley. I am very lucky, indeed!"

BOD member description: Marcus Macklin is a brand marketing consultant that specializes in developing and implementing experiential marketing campaigns, consumer promotions and event sponsorships. Marcus has worked with some of the country’s leading brands and sporting leagues helping them leverage local events to increase brand awareness and ignite trial within their target audience.

BOD member description: Michael Wolfe is a former small business owner, community activist, and stay at home dad. He has been living in the Columbia City neighborhood since 2005 with his wife and son.

BOD member description: Darryl is a native of Seattle and grew up in the Mt. Baker community. He attended O’Dea High and completed his undergraduate work in Business Administration at Tennessee State University. Darryl currently lives in the Beacon Hill area. Darryl is currently with Wellspring Family Services as the Senior Director of Community Services. Darryl has over 20 years of experience in public service at the State, Regional and Local level. He is the former Supervisor of Planning, Program Development and Evaluation for the City of Seattle Human Services Department. His career as a public servant spanned two different administrations in the Washington State Governors Office from 1993 -1999. Darryl also served 5 years working for the Metropolitan King County Council, as an Intergovernmental Relations Associate tracking and reviewing state legislation.

BOD member description: Nate Palmer has been a lifetime resident of South Seattle. He grew up in the Genesee area and currently lives in Seward Park. Nate is a 2007 graduate of Western Washington University and a 2014 MBA graduate of the University of Washington. He is the co-founder and Chief Financial Officer of a Seattle based fabrication and manufacturing company, specializing in the marine industry. In his spare time, Nate loves to run along beautiful Lake Washington Boulevard and Seward Park. He also loves to frequent the Genesee dog park with his pup, Juno. As the Treasury and Board Member of the Rainier Chamber of commerce Nate hopes to expand the Chamber’s presence throughout all of the neighborhoods that make up the South End.

BOD member description: Billy works for Commute Seattle - a nonprofit where he works with employers to find ways to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles needed for their employees to get to work and help promote driving alternatives from carpooling to biking to taking the bus to work. A self-described transit nerd, Billy came to Commute Seattle after working on dozens of political campaigns across the state, and in Olympia during the legislative session. Outside of work Billy is interested in strengthening and promoting the Rainier Valley as a place for everyone to live and work. He is involved with the Rainier Valley Greenways and other community organizations and can often be found at one of the many businesses throughout the Valley.

BOD member description: Curtis is the Executive Director of the Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation. He also consults on community economic development issues with an emphasis of increasing economic activity among residents. He also runs an economics blog/website: Out of Oz Economics. He holds an MBA in economic development from Eastern University.

BOD member description: Mark Temmel is a Seattle native that has lived in the Rainier Valley since 2005. He currently sits on the Membership Committee of the Chamber and is a board member of the Mount Baker Community Club. Mark is passionate about the value of community and is dedicated to various organizations and activities. Mark holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Washington University. Professionally, he is a commercial real estate broker with Temmel Real Estate. In his spare time he loves to cook, watch baseball and travel.

BOD member description: Reed moved to Seattle in February 2016 to work for PepsiCo in Mount Baker. Originally from Denver, Colorado, Reed comes from a hospitality background and graduated from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration. While new to Seattle, he is a lifelong volunteer who believes in taking an active role in supporting the communities he lives and works in. Reed is an avid outdoorsmen and lives for winter sports.

BOD member description: Sally lives in West Seattle, but is clear that her neighborhood is Rainier Valley. She has been on the Chamber board since 2001 and felt at home at her first lunch, an immediate sense of belonging that has only grown. Sally has arranged financing for commercial real estate since 1985. Recently in the Valley--a rehab loan for The Arches Apartments and an expansion of the Shirley Marvin Extended Stay Hotel. And the Ballard Power Station Artist Work/Live, Seven Star Women’s Kung Fu School and a new home in SODO for Emmanuel’s Rug. She circulates 10% of her commissions to the neighborhood where she earns it. Second business is astrological consulting. Sally has been seeing many clients recently as “the planets dish up the biggest change agent in our lifetimes.” Free time is spent moving with Southside Booty Camp, yoga, golf, and mentoring girls of all ages. And Travel. Sally lives with her partner Katherine English, an Environmental Sculptor, at Bedrock in West Seattle.
